My Kind of Sunshine

This was written a while ago under the influence of groovy tunes in a niche at the Spell & Bound Cafe, one of the most peaceful bookstores that I’ve been to in New Delhi. These verses got automatically attuned to a “jazzy” curve as I sat there listening to a sweet jazz cover of Norwegian Wood. I just started writing it out and later realized that it was somehow related to my mother. So, this is could be my jazz tribute to her.

Anyways, I couldn’t find the cover that they used to play at Spell & Bound but found another good one.

Also, this is somewhat similar to an already existing song but was written in total oblivion.

My Kind of Sunshine

Ain’t no sunshine
blossoming on my face.
Ain’t no sunshine
blossoming on my face.

There ain’t no sunshine
blossoming upon my face.
My head stands tall,
my head stands tall above my legs,
upon the wooden life stage
the spotlight, the only kinda warm embrace
but in my eyes you can still see that cold grimace.

Ain’t no sunshine
blossoming on my face.
Ain’t no sunshine
blossoming on my face.

It all started on a half moon lit yesternight
her brain twitched and she began to fight
on her end, i don’t blame her, i guess she was also right
hmmmm, haha, and it’s always hard to explain my plight.

Ain’t no sunshine
blossoming on my face.
Ain’t no sunshine
blossoming on my face.

I am not the one to don a disguise,
even a little, for me, would suffice
but my mamma believed me was a charming lil’ prize
so i glued my eyelids but I still see the tears of her cries.

And, there ain’t no sunshine
blossoming upon my face.
There ain’t no sunshine
blossoming on my face.

Sometimes I’m caught off guard in a self-mourning awful frown,
she’s waiting at the gates with a silver crown.
What I thought about, that after death, we all turn to brown,
beneath the world’s footsteps, we are all a part of this meaningless ground
and I let my lovely mamma down.

And, there ain’t no sunshine
blossoming upon my face.
Ain’t no sunshine
blossoming on my face.

Since I was born I enjoyed her happiness
and couldn’t stand the fact, that I was in favor of her stress
so I decided to put on the conventional dress
and for her is all my new found largesse.

Now there’s a little sunshine that’s
blossoming on my face.
And that all the sunshine
that I’d wanna chase.

Let people say my skin is dry
I can’t spare a second to cry.
All I’m gonna say
is that this light is just enough to make my day.

Cause there’s this little sunshine, blossoming upon my face.
There’s a little sunshine, blossoming upon my face.
